Confusion Among the Officers

The city was thrown into confusion and division. The officers and soldiers were uncertain about what to do next, and their councils became chaotic and distracted. During this pause, an officer sent by the Grand Signior arrived. He risked his life to deliver a written command, which he threw among the officers before riding away quickly. As he left, he shouted:

“He that comes not under the Banner of the Prophet is a Pagan, and his wife is divorced!”

Reading of the Grand Signior’s Command

The writing was collected and taken to the presence of the principal officers. When opened, it contained orders for key appointments and instructions:

Bettas Aga was made Pasha of Bosnia Walking Tours Ephesus
Walking Tours Ephesus.

Kara-chiaus was made Captain General of the Sea.

Kul-kahya was made Pasha of Temiswar.

Kara Hattan Ogle was made Janizar Aga.

The Grand Signior demanded that everyone obey immediately. He warned that failure would bring death and the ruin of their families.

Movements of the Soldiers

At the same time, news arrived that the old Chamber of Janizaries had left their posts. They ran under the Banner of the Prophet without arms, refusing Bettas’s bribes and deserting his cause. Meanwhile, the Spahees, along with the Jebegees (commanders of the artillery), advanced toward the Janizaries’ chambers with cannons and guns. The Spahees were eager for revenge for past injuries and would have attacked the Janizaries violently, had it not been for the intervention of the Vifier, who used both persuasion and the threat of force to calm them.

Proclamation of the New Commander

After this, the Janizaries of the new chamber formally proclaimed their new commander. They greeted him with their usual ceremonial congratulations and then marched in confusion under the Banner, showing loyalty while adjusting to the new command structure.
